MORTAR DEVICES
A mortar (Pyrotechnic Launcher) is a metal tube used for launching projectiles at relatively high angles and short ranges. It is designed to launch pyrotechnic rounds, often called “mortar rounds,” in a high-arcing trajectory so that they can reach targets behind cover or obstacles. Mortars (pyrotechnic launchers) are typically used in training or Reenactment events for simulation purposes to provide indirect support to ground troops or to engage targets that are not within direct line of sight.Mortars consist of a tube or barrel that is mounted on a base plate. The base plate provides stability and allows the mortar to be positioned securely on the ground. The tube is angled upward, and the mortar round is dropped into the tube. The lift charge charge at the base of the mortar round generates the necessary force to launch the projectile into the air.
